Heads up, I just read that Cleveland has over 60,000 homes built before 1950, and mine is one of them
I was poking around the Cuyahoga County property site last week trying to figure out when my house on West 41st was actually built, and I fell down a rabbit hole. Turns out something like 60,000 homes in Cleveland went up before 1950, which is a huge chunk of the city. Mine dates to 1921, and I had no clue until I saw the record. That got me thinking about all the stuff hiding in old walls, like the knob and tube wiring my inspector flagged in the attic and the lead paint I found under three layers of latex in the hallway. I mean, it makes sense when you do the math, but seeing the actual number kind of hit me. If you have not pulled your home's build date, do it, it's free and it tells you a lot about what you might be dealing with. Anybody else here in an old Cleveland house that turned out way older than you assumed?
