I was sure those new basement dehumidifiers were a scam...

My neighbor in Ohio City swore by his for a year, but I figured our 1920s house was just damp. After the spring rains, I finally got one and it pulled 2 gallons of water out of the air in a week. Has anyone else in an old Cleveland home seen a real difference with these things?

Wait, you saw that much water in just a week? That's crazy. I had the same doubt about them being a scam, honestly. My place in Tremont is from around the same time and it always felt kind of clammy. I finally caved and ran one in the finished part of my basement last fall. The musty smell was gone in like two days, and I noticed my stuff down there just felt drier, like blankets and things. It made a huge difference for me.

Yeah, that's the thing people don't get until they try one.

Wait, two days? That's actually insane... I figured those things took weeks to do anything. My basement is a total cave and I've just been putting up with the damp smell forever. Might have to look into one now, that's way faster than I thought.
