Just read that Cleveland's property tax rate is actually lower than the Ohio average, which blew my mind after years of complaining about my bill.

Found this stat on the city's own finance website and now I'm torn between thinking we get a decent deal for city services or that the whole system is just broken and the 'average' is meaningless.

Man, I felt the same way when I saw my town's numbers. I was mad at my bill until I actually broke it down. I looked up what my specific tax rate pays for, like trash pickup and the local library hours, and it made the number hurt a little less. It's not perfect, but it gave me a list of things to actually complain about at town meetings instead of just yelling at the bill. @willowh20, maybe try that breakdown, it helped me see where my money goes, even if it still stings.

Totally get that. See it all the time with bills and subscriptions. People get mad at the total number but never check the line items. Like my friend was fuming about her phone bill until she realized half of it was paying for her kid's unlimited data. Broke it down and suddenly the fight changed from "this is too much" to "you're using too much data." Makes the anger way more useful.

My property tax bill still feels like a second mortgage, so hearing it's below average is a gut punch lol. Maybe I'm just paying for way too much house, which is a me problem.
