My electrician's warning about knob and tube made me cancel a whole remodel

Was getting a quote from Mike at Lakewood Electric for some new outlets and he pointed at my attic wiring and said 'you know this is knob and tube right, your insurance will drop you if they find out'. I had no idea, bought this place in 2019 and nobody mentioned it during inspection. He quoted me $4,800 to replace it all and honestly that stung but better than a fire or a canceled policy. Anyone else dealt with this surprise in an older Cleveland home?

Same thing happened to me with a place in Lakewood back in 2017. Had the seller knock a grand off the price after the inspector missed it, then paid a guy to rewire just the main rooms first. It's a pain, but you're right about the insurance thing, my policy renewal letter mentioned it too.
