My neighbor Frank showed me a trick for clearing gutters without a ladder

He saw me struggling on my roof over on West 65th Street and came over with a long pole and a special hook he made. Frank said he's been using this setup for 15 years to clean from the ground, and it takes him about 20 minutes for his whole house. He even let me borrow it to try on my own gutters last fall. What other local hacks have you guys picked up from people in your neighborhood?

Man, that reminds me of my old neighbor who had a wild fix for squeaky floors. He'd sprinkle talcum powder right into the cracks between the floorboards, then walk back and forth to work it down. Said it was like cheap, quiet grease for the wood. I tried it on my creaky hallway and it actually worked for a few months. You pick up the weirdest stuff just from chatting over the fence.

Honestly that's such a good neighbor trick.

Used to think you had to take the whole floor apart for that. Hearing about the talcum powder trick totally changed my mind. It's one of those simple fixes that feels too easy to actually work. Now I'm convinced the best solutions are usually the weird ones you'd never find in a manual. Makes me wonder what other old-school hacks are out there.
