Dealing with fallen branches taught me to check where the property line really was... We got a survey done and it turned out the tree was partly on my side too. Now we both maintain it and it's way less stressful.

@faith_thomas, your approach might work for some, but sharing a tree sounds like a recipe for trouble. If both people are in charge, someone always ends up feeling like they're doing more work. My neighbor and I had a fence on the line, and trying to split costs just led to hard feelings. I'd rather know exactly what's mine and deal with it alone. Mixing things up with a neighbor makes simple jobs complicated. Keeping things separate has always been less stressful for me.
