My new neighbor thought our 1906 porch was original. It's a 1994 vinyl wrap.
We moved into a Colonial revival off Clifton Blvd last spring. A neighbor stopped me while I was painting the trim and went on about how authentic the porch columns looked, said they matched the original drawings. I had to laugh and tell him the whole thing is a vinyl wrap from a 1994 remodel, the wood underneath was rotten bad. He looked at me like I'd admitted to tearing down a landmark. Apparently some folks in this area get real attached to what they think is historic, even when it's plastic pretending. I get loving old houses, but does anyone else ever wonder how many 'original features' in Cleveland are actually just 30 year old updates that got baked into the story? Maybe I should have just let him believe it, right? What's the strangest fake-old thing you've found on your place?

Honestly never thought about that, but now I kinda get it.
