Our basement flood changed what we look for in a house

After 3 inches of rain last May, we found 2 feet of water in our finished basement here in Parma. The previous owner's sump pump was 12 years old and just gave out, so now we check the pump age and the grading slope before we even make an offer. Has anyone else had a surprise flood that changed their buying checklist?

Mine’s the opposite, I bought the house because the basement was already a swimming pool.
