Overheard a neighbor talking about their water bill at the Gordon Square farmers market

I was picking up some veggies last Saturday and heard a guy telling his friend his water bill jumped from about $40 to over $90 in a single quarter. He said the city found a leak in his service line, the pipe between the street and his house. I checked my own bills and mine's been steady, but it got me thinking. I called the water department and they said they'll do a free check if you ask. Has anyone else in Ohio City had them come out for that? I'm scheduling mine for next week just to be safe.

Yeah that reminds me of my cousin over in Tremont, his whole basement flooded last spring from a cracked pipe under his slab. He didn't have a clue until he went down there and saw the puddle. The fix was a huge mess, had to tear up part of the floor. Makes me want to go check my own basement right now.

Eh, probably just a fluke.

Honestly that free check is a no brainer. I had the city come out last year after my neighbor had a similar spike, and they found a tiny leak at my meter I never would have noticed. Tbh it saved me a ton of hassle and money down the road. You're smart to schedule it, those old pipes around here can be sneaky.
