Paid a guy on Facebook $800 to fix my garage door and he ghosted after taking the motor.
He said he had parts from a job in Parma and could do it cheap, but he just unbolted the whole unit and drove off. Has anyone actually found a good, honest repair person through those local groups?

Man, that's a total nightmare, sorry that happened. It feels like a real gamble with those groups sometimes. I got burned last year on a fence quote that way, paid a deposit and the guy just vanished. I've had better luck asking my actual neighbors for recommendations instead of the big town pages.

Tell me about it, lost a grand to a roofer who ghosted after taking my money.

Ugh, that's the worst. My buddy had a guy take half up front for a garage repair, like two grand. The guy did one afternoon of work, tore off some shingles, and then his phone just went straight to voicemail for a month. Left the tarp flapping in the wind.
