Pro tip: insulating your attic access panel is worth every penny
I spent about $40 on some foam board and weatherstripping last fall to seal up the pull-down attic stairs in my Cleveland bungalow. My heating bills dropped roughly $25 a month through the winter, so it paid for itself in two months. The real surprise was how much more comfortable the hallway felt with all that cold air staying up in the attic. Has anyone else had luck with other simple insulation upgrades around the house?

That $40 payout sounds great. I did the same thing to my hatch door in the hallway last fall and it made a huge difference in the draftiness. I used a roll of foam tape around the edges and a piece of rigid foam on top of the door itself. You can really feel the cold air stays put up there now instead of leaking right into the living room. What kind of weatherstripping did you go with for yours?

Isn't it funny how the smallest fixes end up making the biggest difference around the house?
