PSA: Check your sump pump before the spring melt, mine crapped out and flooded my basement in Old Brooklyn
So last Wednesday I go down to my basement on W 25th to grab some paint and there is standing water 2 inches deep across the whole floor. The sump pump had seized up sometime over the winter and I had no clue because it just sat there quietly doing nothing. My neighbor Dale, who has lived on this block for 30 years, told me his flooded back in 2019 and now he runs a test every March by dumping a 5 gallon bucket of water in the pit. I lost a bunch of old family photos and my furnace is making a weird noise now, and the guy who came out quoted $1,200 just to dry it out. Has anyone here had luck with a battery backup system, or should I just get a water alarm and call it a day?
