Question about the stretch of Lorain Ave near W. 117th where every other house has a chain link fence

I walked that block last Saturday and counted 9 chain link fences out of 14 houses, which got me wondering if folks see them as cheap and easy or just plain ugly. Is it worth swapping to wood for curb appeal, or does the chain link hold up better against Cleveland winters and dogs?
