Question about those cheap gutter guards from the hardware store

Spent $80 on a set that claimed to be 'heavy duty', only to watch a squirrel chew right through them and drop a walnut on my car last Tuesday.

Ever try the metal mesh kind? Squirrels can't chew through that.

My neighbor used that mesh last fall and it's still holding up perfectly.

That's a solid point from michael_coleman10 about the plastic mesh lasting. I've seen the same thing where the sun doesn't break it down as fast as you'd expect. The metal kind is a beast, but you have to be careful cutting it to fit without leaving sharp edges.
