Rant: My neighbor's sump pump flood last spring made me buy a backup
I live on the west side near Kamm's Corners and we had that huge rainstorm in April. The guy two houses down had his main sump pump fail and his basement got six inches of water in under an hour. He told me the cleanup bill was over $8,000. I went out the next week and bought a battery backup pump system from Home Depot. It cost about $400 but it gives me real peace of mind now. Has anyone else added a backup pump after seeing a neighbor deal with a flood?

Watched my buddy's finished basement get wrecked last summer. His primary pump quit during a storm and he had no backup. Had to tear out all that new carpet and the drywall up to two feet. The real kicker was the smell, that damp moldy smell that just wouldn't go away for weeks. Makes that backup pump cost seem pretty small now, doesn't it?

My basement would just surrender immediately.
