Shoutout to the roofer who actually showed up on time in Parma
I got burned by two different roofers last year who ghosted me after taking deposits. Last month I hired a guy named Mike from a small outfit on Broadview Road and he came at 7 AM sharp like he said. He patched a leak near my chimney for $450 and it held through that big storm last week. Anyone else find a decent contractor in the southwest suburbs or am I just lucky?

Small family shops are the way to go, they can't afford to burn their reputation.

Three times now I've hired local family-run places for different things (plumbing, lawn care, roof repair) and every single time the owner showed up personally to check the work once it was done. That's the part that gets me, they actually care about the result because their name is on the truck and the next door neighbor might ask about them at the grocery store. There's a whole layer of accountability that just doesn't exist with the big chain places where you're talking to a call center in another state. Honestly feels like we've traded that neighborly trust for convenience fees and referral bonuses, and I'm not sure it was worth it.

Our guy showed up three hours late with no call but did great work so I guess it balances out.
