Showerthought: the squirrel in my gutters set off my motion light at 2am and I ended up on the roof in slippers
Last Tuesday my porch light started flipping on and off around 2am, so I shuffled outside in slippers thinking it was a raccoon and found a squirrel wedged in the gutter above the porch. I propped our step ladder against the downspout, climbed up with a broom handle, and nudged the little guy toward the end, where he jumped onto the fence and stared at me like I was the problem. Then I saw the real issue: a clog of wet leaves about 4 inches deep had dammed the whole run, and water was backing up right over the fascia board. I spent 40 minutes scooping it out with a trowel and a bucket at 3 in the morning, and now I am wondering if those gutter guard screens are worth the $300 or if they just hide the mess. Has anyone in the Cleveland area had luck with a certain type, or should I just add leaf duty to the fall list?
