That week in Shaker Heights when my basement sump pump died during a storm
Last June we had a huge downpour on a Tuesday night, and I woke up to two inches of water in my basement. My neighbor Joe helped me bail it out, but it cost me $450 to get a new pump installed from Cleveland Plumbing Supply on Lee Road. Has anyone else had a sudden pump failure like that during a bad storm?

Four hundred fifty dollars for a sump pump? That's wild, mine was only like a hundred and twenty at Lowe's but I guess emergency plumbing rates are a thing (especially on a Tuesday night). Joe sounds like a real MVP for jumping in to help with the bailing though.

Not having a backup plan for that sucks. A cheap portable pump from Home Depot is worth keeping around just for emergencies like this. Test yours every spring before the heavy rains hit.
