Unpopular opinion: basement waterproofing companies are a ripoff for most Cleveland homes

I spent $4,200 on a waterproofing system last spring after a wet March, but all I actually needed was to regrade the dirt around my foundation and extend the downspouts 6 feet out. Has anyone else here solved water issues without spending the big bucks?

$4,200 is steep for a basic fix, but for some Cleveland homes with clay soil or bad grading, you definitely need more than just extending downspouts. I had a neighbor who spent $3,000 on a French drain only to find out his gutters were clogged for ten years. Saving money with regrading is smart, but if water's pooling right against the foundation wall itself, you might still need a pro.

Regraded my whole yard myself for like $150 in soil. Solved it.

Friend of mine tried the DIY route with regrading cause he watched some videos. Ended up making the slope worse and water started seeping into his crawlspace lol. @adamk95 probably has better luck with grading than my buddy did.
