Unpopular opinion: you do not need a pro to snake a main line, and my $180 call taught me that
I used to call a plumber for any backup at my place on West 41st, no questions asked. Last March I paid a guy $180 to run a snake 25 feet and he was done in 20 minutes, so I finally bought a 50 foot manual auger for $38 and did it myself last week in about 30 minutes. I get that everyone says main lines are a pro job and DIY can crack old clay pipe, but for a basic backup where the water is draining slow and not fully backing up, there is no magic happening. Anyone else here snake their own line, or am I going to regret this the first time I hit a root ball?
