Why does nobody talk about how bad lake effect snow is for gutters
I live over near the lake in Cleveland and after that big storm two weeks ago I spent 4 hours clearing ice dams off my gutters. The buildup was so bad water started leaking into my basement laundry room. I ended up having to pay a guy $150 to come out and check for damage. Has anyone else dealt with ice damage on the east side?

After 30 years on the east side you'd think a person would learn that not every house is built the same or has the same luck with storms. Must be nice to have never dealt with a bad one though.

I think you're being a little dramatic about a few hours of gutter work. That's just part of living near the lake in winter. If you're getting water in your basement from ice dams then your gutters probably weren't installed or maintained right in the first place. I've been on the east side for 30 years and I've never paid anyone to check for damage after a storm. A good set of gutter guards and keeping them clean in the fall stops all that buildup. You might be making a mountain out of a molehill with that $150 worry.

You start by saying "making a mountain out of a molehill" but that can really depend on how bad the ice dam gets. I've seen houses on the east side where a small dam led to thousands in roof rot because water got stuck under the shingles. Not saying you're wrong, but is it really that hard to believe a few hours of work could turn into a bigger issue?
