Why does nobody talk about how neighbors used to borrow tools without a second thought
I was at the Ace on Lorain last Saturday and overheard two younger guys joking about knocking on a neighbor's door to ask for a ladder like it was some crazy idea. It got me thinking about how when we moved into our house on West 41st back in 1998, I probably borrowed a drill from the guy next door a dozen times in the first month, and he never once made it weird. Now my husband and I know maybe two people on our block well enough to wave at, let alone ask for a favor. I miss that easy give and take, and I wonder if it's the fences, the schedules, or just how folks are now. Curious if other people around here still swap tools or lend stuff with their neighbors, or if that ship has sailed.
