A guy at my town hall called my recycling pitch 'performative' and I've been second guessing it for 3 weeks
I gave a 10 minute talk at the Rockford city meeting about starting a curbside compost pilot, and afterward a guy said it was "performative green stuff that just makes people feel good." He said the real win would be pushing our utility to shut down the peaker plant on the south side, which runs on gas and fires up every hot afternoon. So now I'm stuck: do I keep pushing the compost thing because it's winnable and gets people involved, or drop it and fight the bigger, harder battle? Half of me thinks small stuff builds momentum, the other half thinks he's right that we're just rearranging deck chairs. Where do you all land on this?
