I thought composting at my apartment was pointless until I saw the number on my building's trash bill
I live in a 40 unit building in Portland and always figured my little kitchen bin did nothing next to all that garbage. Then our manager showed me the city waste report last month: food scraps were 31% of what we threw out, and the building got charged extra for the weight. Six of us started a shared compost bucket on the loading dock and our dumpster pickups dropped from 3 times a week to 2. That is real money off our rent. Has anyone else gotten their landlord to actually care about this, or did you just do it on your own?
Shocking that it took a literal bill with numbers on it for your landlord to care lol. Ours still acts like separating trash is some kind of personal attack on him. Good on you six for just doing it yourselves instead of waiting around forever. Two pickups instead of three is no joke, that adds up fast for a building that size.
