My compost bin lid blew off in the storm last Tuesday and I lost 3 weeks of scraps
The latch on my bin was cracked and I kept putting off fixing it, so when that wind hit Lansing the lid popped right off and rain soaked everything. I spent Saturday re-latching it with two bungee cords and a cinder block, and now I'm digging out the soggy layer. Has anyone found a lid setup that actually survives 40 mph gusts?
Who hasn't played the "I'll fix that later" game and lost? I did the exact same thing with a cracked latch on my bin, and mine wasn't even a storm, just a windy garbage day. My lid went rolling down the alley like a frisbee and I had to chase it in my slippers. Now I keep a heavy rock on top and check the latch every time I add scraps, which is my version of being handy. The bungee cord plus cinder block setup sounds about as storm proof as it gets, honestly.
