Realized I was overwatering my vegetable garden for 5 years straight
I was watering every day like clockwork until my neighbor who farms said I was drowning my tomatoes and peppers last July. Now I only water when the soil feels dry an inch down and everything grew twice as big. Anyone else find out they were doing basic garden care totally backwards?

Oh boy, you and me both. I was watering my garden like it was a swimming pool for years. My neighbor finally told me to stick my finger in the dirt instead of just guessing. Turns out my peppers were practically wearing little life jackets.

Stick your finger in the dirt? I did that too. Now my basil's roots are probably traumatized from the shock. My neighbor told me to check the weight of the pot instead. Lighter pot means water time. My poor succulents were practically floating before that tip.

Oh man, this weight trick saved my plants too. I was drowning everything before my neighbor showed me that. It's so simple but once you start doing it you can't go back to poking around in the dirt. Succulents are especially bad about needing less water than you think. I killed two before someone told me they actually like to be a little thirsty.
