Shoutout to the solar setup at my local library in Denver

I stopped by the Denver Public Library branch on Speer Boulevard last Tuesday and noticed they put in a 5 kilowatt solar panel system on the roof. It's been running for about 6 months now and they say it covers a quarter of the building's electric bill. Has anyone else seen their local library add solar panels or other green upgrades?

Would a system that small even make a dent when summer AC runs all day?

Not to nitpick but a 5 kilowatt system doesn't cover a quarter of a building's electric bill unless that library is super small or only open part time. I work with solar numbers a lot and a 5kW system in Denver averages around 650-700 kWh per month depending on the season and roof angle. A typical medium sized library branch probably pulls 5,000-8,000 kWh a month easy. So you're looking at maybe 10% at best, not 25%. My guess is whoever told you that didn't account for how much power libraries actually use with all the computers, lights, and HVAC running. Still a solid move though, any solar helps offset costs and shows the community they're trying.

Honestly never thought libraries would go solar but this actually makes sense.
