Spent 3 months trying to get my landlord to fix a leaky radiator
Honestly, my apartment's radiator has been dripping since last November and I finally got it fixed this week - 4 months of back and forth. Every time I called, they said someone would come next week but nobody ever showed up. Has anyone else dealt with a landlord dragging their feet on fixing old heating systems?

Read a piece in Consumer Reports once that said 60 percent of tenant calls about heat and hot water issues get ignored for at least a month. Made me feel slightly better about my own situation but not by much. My radiator was making this rhythmic clanking sound at 3 AM that sounded like someone slowly dropping bowling balls. Landlord finally fixed it after I sent him a video of the noise with the caption "your building is haunted" - no joke, that worked faster than any official request.

Oh ABSOLUTELY my landlord acts like fixing anything before the next ice age is a CRIME. I had a radiator that would hiss like a angry cat every time the heat kicked on and they told me it was "normal" for three Winters straight. Finally just duct taped a towel around it and called it a day. At this point I'm convinced they have a secret competition to see who can make their tenants suffer the longest before giving in. You're lucky it only took 4 months honestly some of us are still waiting for that "next week" that never comes.

Honestly I kinda feel like landlords get way too much heat for this. I mean yeah 4 months is annoying but think about it from their side. They probably have like 50 units and one guy on staff who knows how to work on those old steam systems. I've had landlords who were total nightmares but I also had one who explained the radiator parts are literally not made anymore and he had to hunt one down on eBay. Took him 3 months to find it and another month to install but at least he was upfront about it. Maybe your landlord just sucks at communicating but there's usually more to the story than them trying to make you miserable on purpose.
