Bought a cheap collet set online and it cost me a $300 part

The runout was so bad it scrapped a titanium job on the third pass. Anyone know a good brand for a 5C set that won't break the bank but actually holds tight?

Ouch, scrapping titanium? That's brutal. I've had good luck with Royal collets.

Yeah, that's a rough lesson to learn the hard way. I mean, with titanium, you really can't mess around. @ellis.susan, when you say Royal collets worked for you, are you talking about their full set or just a couple key sizes? I've heard mixed things on some of their older stock. I'm trying to figure out if the good ones are from a specific batch or seller, because buying a whole set is still a big deal for me.

So when you say older stock is hit or miss, do you mean the ones with the blue finish versus the newer black oxide? I had a buddy get a set of the blue ones from a surplus auction and said the runout was all over the place.
