Guy at the shop in Dayton said he never checks runout on bar stock, and half the crew agreed with him
I was standing at the grinder last Thursday listening to two guys argue about whether indicating bar stock before a run is a waste of time, and one of them said he hasn't checked runout in maybe two years. He claims the collet does all the work and he's never scrapped a part because of it, while the other guy said he's caught bent bars that way that would have wrecked a $400 insert. Now I'm second guessing my own setup routine, so do you all check runout on every bar or just when something sounds off?
