I bought a cheap tool setter probe and it cost me a whole day of work

It was a $150 unit from an online seller that promised quick setup, but it drifted by almost 0.002 inches after just a few uses. I had to scrap three parts and re-run the whole setup from scratch. Has anyone found a budget probe that actually holds up?

My buddy's cheap probe ruined a whole batch of parts last month.

We had a Renishaw go bad and scrap twenty parts before we caught it. Tell your buddy jamesroberts to check his probe's repeatability with a test indicator before trusting it on a run.

Yeah, cheap probes will do that. I set a rule to check mine with a tenths indicator every Monday and after any crash. Found one drifting by half a thou last month.
