Ngl that convo with old timer Marc about tool pathing blew my mind
I was at a shop in Toledo last week helping a buddy with his Haas mini mill. This graybeard Marc walks over and watches me run a few parts. He goes 'your finish pass is fighting the material, not cutting it.' Said to try a trochoidal path instead of my usual climb mill. Took his advice on a test run and the surface finish came out way smoother plus it saved me 2 minutes per part. Has anyone else had an old timer drop a tip that made you rethink your whole approach?

I don't know, it's just milling, not rocket surgery. Seems like people overthink this stuff sometimes.

Wait, can you break down what exactly he meant by "fighting the material"? Were you running too many DOC or something?
