Noticed a huge difference in part finish after switching to a different coolant mix

I used to run the same generic coolant for like 2 years straight. Then last month I finally switched to a semi-synthetic blend that my supplier had been pushing. The finish on aluminum parts went from decent to almost mirror-like with no extra polishing pass. The only downside is it smells weird now, like sweet tea or something. Has anyone else seen that big of a jump just from changing coolant?
