Serious question, an old machinist at my shop said my feeds and speeds were 'polite' and it stung because he was right

Man, that word cuts deep. Had a buddy who ran a lathe for years and his boss called his cuts "gentle" in front of the whole crew. He went home that night, bumped his feed up 20 percent the next morning, and snapped a boring bar on the first pass. Took him a month to find the sweet spot again, but now nobody calls his cuts gentle.
