Spent $200 on those fancy carbide end mills from a boutique brand
They chipped on the third pass cutting 6061 aluminum at the recommended speeds. My $15 YG-1 from the local supplier has held up better through 40 parts. Anyone else have better luck with budget tooling?

Man, I've seen this same thing happen with so many different tools and products. It's like people think spending more means it's automatically better, but in my experience that's just not true. I've got a cheap cordless drill from a hardware store that's outlasted two fancy ones my buddy bought. Or think about those overpriced chef knives that chip if you look at them wrong, versus a solid $40 one that just works. It seems like a lot of the time, the expensive stuff is all about marketing hype and a cool look, not actual durability. Your mileage may vary, but I'll take a reliable workhorse over a flashy brand any day.

My neighbor just dropped $400 on a "professional grade" hammer last week and I swear it's already got a weird wobble in the handle. Meanwhile my grandpa's old Craftsman from the 80s is still hanging in my garage like it's waiting for its next job. Guess that fancy price tag didn't come with a side of common sense.
