TIL cranking my spindle speed to max on aluminum was burning through end mills
Ran the same 3 flute carbide bit for 6 months at 10k rpm on 6061 and went through 4 of them, figured that was just the cost of cutting aluminum. Then a guy at the shop in Fort Worth showed me his chip load chart and said I was rubbing the cutter instead of cutting, dropped it to 6k with a bigger feed and the same bit has lasted 5 months now. Anyone got a good rule of thumb for rpm on 7075, or do you just run the numbers every time?
