Wasted $150 on cheap end mills from a random online shop
Ordered a bulk pack of 10 carbide end mills from some site I found on Google. Looked like a decent deal. First one chipped on a 6061 aluminum part within 2 minutes. Second one didn't even last through a single pass on mild steel. All of them were just garbage. Should have just bought from the usual supplier. Anyone else get burned buying cheap tooling online?

32 bucks for a pack of 8mm two-flute bits off some site called "ToolTimeDirect." The coating flaked off after one cut on some aluminum. It's like the whole world is trying to nickel and dime you into buying junk now. Same thing with off-brand drill bits at the hardware store, they just bend instead of cutting. You end up paying more in the long run replacing stuff that should have worked in the first place.

My buddy got those same bits and said the coating looked like cheap spray paint.

Funny how you can't trust anything to just work anymore. It's the same thing with kitchen gadgets, phone chargers, even car parts now. Everything's built to look good for a week then fall apart so you buy another one. That coating flaking off after one cut on aluminum tells you everything you need to know about their quality control. People act surprised when cheap stuff acts cheap, but at some point it's hard to find anything that isn't junk unless you pay triple the price.
