My 10 year old nephew asked me why my code was so 'shouty'

I was showing him a simple Python script I wrote, and he pointed at all the capital letters in my variable names and said, 'Why is it yelling at me?' I was using SCREAMING_SNAKE_CASE for constants, which is a standard thing, but hearing it from a kid made it sound completely silly. Has anyone else had a simple question make you question a basic coding habit?

Ever wonder why we started shouting in the first place?

My friend Dave swears it started in his old office. They had this broken AC unit (it just hummed, no cold air) and the guy in the next cubicle would always mumble. Dave said he caught himself practically yelling "DID YOU SEND THE THING?" just to be heard over the noise. After a while, everyone was just talking loud all the time, even when the AC got fixed. Kind of funny how that sticks.

Right? I wonder that all the time, @alexk60.
