Spent 6 months writing code without using functions at all

I had this massive PHP script that was like 2000 lines of repeated logic, and a coworker finally asked why I kept copying the same 15 lines over and over. That's when it clicked that functions weren't just some fancy thing for 'real' programmers, they were literally made to save me from doing exactly what I was doing. Has anyone else had that embarrassing 'oh duh' moment with something super basic?

Read somewhere that 90% of coding is just not repeating yourself.

Good heavens, 90%?! That can't be right at all.

Oh PLEASE. Reminds me of when mom said 90% of cooking is just washing dishes. Ridiculous.
