Switched from notepad to VS Code for my first project after 3 crashes
I was building a simple HTML page for a friend's small business, nothing fancy. Used Windows notepad for the first week because I thought IDEs were overkill for beginners. Lost everything twice when the program froze and I hadn't saved in hours. Downloaded VS Code after the third crash and the auto-save feature alone saved me about 8 hours of rework. Has anyone else stuck with basic tools way longer than they should have?

Theres a weird mindset people get with tools where they think using something more basic makes them more legit or something. Same thing happened to my buddy who edited photos in Paint for months because he thought learning Photoshop was cheating. Dudes like no I want to do it the real way while losing his mind cropping things pixel by pixel. We do the same thing with cars too, driving an old beater until it dies because its paid off even though we spend more on repairs than a new payment. Notepad works until you realize your time is worth more than the principle of the thing.

Wait, you lost eight hours of work three times? That's insane, I would have thrown my laptop out the window after the first crash. I get wanting to keep it simple, but notepad is just asking for trouble when you're coding.
