Was always told online bootcamps were a scam, but my friend landed a real job after one in 4 months... now I wonder if I was wrong to dismiss them.
I spent years self-teaching with free resources because I figured paying for a bootcamp was a waste, but my buddy's experience with a specific one in Austin has me questioning if the structured curriculum and networking actually makes a difference, anyone else changed their mind after seeing real results from something they were skeptical about?

Read a Medium article saying bootcamps just teach you how to pass interviews.

See @fiona985 I actually think there's some truth to that but also not the whole story. Bootcamps cram a ton of stuff into a short time and yeah they teach you how to talk about code and pass technical screens. But I've seen plenty of grads who can spit back algorithms but freeze when they have to actually build something from scratch. The real learning happens when you're on the job and dealing with messy real world problems. Bootcamps are good for getting your foot in the door but they don't make you a developer. You gotta put in the work after too.
