Appreciation post: My wife's cold brew trick actually works

I thought her overnight method with a pinch of salt was just extra work, but after trying it last week, my usual batch tasted way less bitter. Has anyone else tried adding salt to their cold brew concentrate?

That "pinch of salt" trick is a game changer. I was skeptical too, but it really smooths out the rough edges. I started doing it with my french press cold brew and it made a huge difference. It's one of those little things that sounds silly but actually works.

My roommate saw me adding salt to coffee grounds and thought I'd finally lost it. @the_max, you're gonna get me committed with these tips.

That "smooths out the rough edges" is exactly right. I read an old cookbook that said a tiny bit of salt cuts the bitter taste without making the coffee taste salty. It works with cheap coffee too. I tried it with my morning drip pot when the beans were a bit over-roasted. It just made it taste smoother, like it took the harsh bite away.
