Can we talk about how much caffeine is actually in a dark roast?

I read this article on a coffee science blog last night that said dark roast beans actually have less caffeine than light roast by volume. Blew my mind because I always thought the bold flavor meant more kick. Turns out the roasting process burns off some caffeine but light roasts keep more of it. Has anyone else been fooled by this for years?

Switch to light roast if you want a real caffeine jolt instead.

Have you tried cutting it with a little dark roast to soften the edge? I found that mixing them 60/40 light to dark gives me that caffeine punch without the 3am staring-at-the-ceiling problem. Also make sure you're not brewing it too hot, light roasts can get harsh and bitter if you go above 200 degrees. That extra bitterness tricks your brain into thinking you need more caffeine than you actually do.

Dude my buddy tried that switch last month and ended up wired for like 14 hours straight. He said he got more done in one afternoon than the whole week before but couldn't sleep at all that night. Pretty sure he still buys light roast but only drinks it before noon now.
