I thought pour over cones were all hype until I tried a $9 plastic one. For like 2 years I only used my French press because I figured any pour over setup was just fussy nonsense for people who like filters. Then my buddy in Austin let me borrow his cheap plastic V60 knockoff on a camping trip last spring and I was honestly stunned at the difference. The coffee came out so much cleaner and brighter, no grit at the bottom, and it took maybe 4 minutes total once I got the water temp right. I kept waiting for the plastic taste or the cone to warp and it never happened, so I finally bought one for myself at a local shop for $9. Now I rotate between the press on lazy Sundays and the cone on work mornings, but I still think some of those $60 ceramic versions are pure marketing. Has anyone else found that budget gear beats the fancy stuff in a blind taste test or am I just lucky with this one?
