Shoutout to my local roaster for turning my week around
I had the worst Monday last week. Spilled coffee grounds all over the counter, then my grinder jammed up because I forgot to clean it. By Tuesday I was just using stale grocery store beans and feeling sorry for myself. Then on Wednesday I walked into Brew Lab on 5th Street and the barista asked how my day was going. I told him about my grinder trouble and he just handed me a free sample bag of their house blend. That bag cost maybe $12 but it made my whole week better. The beans were roasted just two days before and the smell alone got me out of my funk. Has anyone else had a coffee shop save your week like that?

Oh man, I used to think dropping $12 on a bag of beans was just throwing money away for no reason. But after one fresh local roast turned my whole sour mood around, I totally get it now. There's just something about that smell and taste that makes everything feel right again.

I can't believe you used to think paying $12 for fresh beans was a waste! That's wild to me, @mila_murphy21, because a good bag of coffee is like five bucks cheaper than a therapy session and lasts way longer. The smell alone from beans roasted two days ago is basically bottled happiness. No wonder it turned your mood around, that's a whole different level of fresh. I had a similar thing happen at a shop in Portland once, the barista gave me a pour over on the house and I felt like a new person. Good coffee people are basically superheroes in aprons.

My buddy Dave was the exact same way. He used to buy the cheapest grocery store Folgers and thought anyone spending more was just showing off. Then he visited me up in Seattle and I dragged him to this tiny roastery in Capitol Hill. The owner handed him a cup of their Ethiopian Yirgacheffe that had been roasted maybe three days before. He took one sip and just stood there silent for like ten seconds. Now he drives forty five minutes every other weekend just to stock up on their beans.
