Shoutout to my old French press that finally cracked this morning
I've had the same Bodum press since 2018 and it finally gave up on me today. The glass just split right down the middle when I was rinsing it out. I tried to use a metal strainer as a backup but the coffee came out gritty and sad. Anyone else lost a piece of gear they thought would last forever?

You said 'Aw man, that really sucks doesn't it' - but honestly, is it really the end of the world? I mean, it's a coffee maker, not a family heirloom. I've broken three French presses over the years and just went back to a basic drip machine for a while. Worked fine, coffee still came out hot. I get that people get attached to their gear, but sometimes we overreact to stuff that's pretty easy to replace.

Isnt it wild how attached we get to a coffee maker of all things? I totally feel your pain though, that Bodum was probably a solid workhorse for you. I dropped my old French press two years ago and tried the metal strainer route too, ended up with mud in my cup and a bad mood to match. There's something about that glass and plunger combo that just makes the perfect cup, no substitute really cuts it. Hope you find a worthy replacement soon, maybe even a similar one if you can track it down.
