Showerthought: My old drip machine felt like a chore, but now I look forward to my morning pour-over

For years, I just hit the button on a basic Mr. Coffee and walked away, getting a pot that was often burnt or bitter. About six months ago, a friend in Portland sent me a simple Hario V60 dripper, and I started timing my pours and weighing my beans. The difference is night and day, and the whole five-minute routine has become this quiet, focused start to my day. Anyone else find that switching to a manual method made you enjoy the process more than you thought you would?

Watch you with your fancy timed pours. I'm over here just trying not to spill the grounds all over the counter while the dog is barking. It does taste better though, I'll give you that.

Just add the dog to the ritual.

My buddy had that same "not spilling the grounds" fight for weeks. He'd always rush and knock the whole filter. Then he got a little metal scoop and started treating it like a science project, you know? Now he's got this whole slow dance with the kettle before his kids wake up. Says it's the only quiet he gets all day.
