That barista in Portland who sniffed my espresso and walked away still haunts me

He took one whiff at the counter, shook his head, and said 'this roast died 9 days ago' before handing it back, and honestly I've been second-guessing every bean I buy since, so has anyone else ever gotten a critique like that that made you question your whole setup?
