Why does nobody talk about using ice cubes to pre-cool your mug?
Last week I was making my morning pour-over and realized my ceramic mug was way too hot from the dishwasher. I dropped 3 ice cubes in there, swirled them around for 30 seconds, dumped the water, then poured my coffee. The mug stayed at the perfect temp and my coffee didn't get cold too fast. Anyone else have a weird trick like this for mug temperature?

Three ice cubes in a hot mug, huh? I've definitely done the "spill half the water on the counter while trying to swirl it" version of that trick. Honestly, my biggest mug temp fail was last winter when I preheated my mug in the microwave for way too long and then burned my hand grabbing it. Ngl, the ice cube method is way smarter than my usual "just hope it cools down fast enough" strategy.

The "just drop some ice in a hot mug" move is solid. It fits into that whole category of tiny, almost dumb-simple fixes that people don't mention because they assume everyone already does it. Like microwaving a sponge for 10 seconds to kill the smell. Nobody talks about it but it changes your week.
