Dropped my latte and a stranger helped me clean it up at Stumptown in Portland
I was at Stumptown on Belmont last Tuesday, juggling my laptop bag and a hot latte. My hand slipped and the whole cup smashed on the tile floor, coffee everywhere. A guy at the next table jumped up with napkins and helped me wipe it down before the barista even noticed. We ended up chatting for 20 minutes while I got a replacement drink. Has anyone else had a coffee shop spill turn into a random conversation?

@seanjackson Totally get the question. Had a similar spill at a Peet's in downtown Seattle. 15 minute chat with the guy who helped me. Turned out we both had the same dumb boss at different offices. Bonded over that and swapped stories about cold brew.

20 minutes seems wild for a chat with a stranger who wiped up your drink @seanjackson

Ask what you two actually ended up talking about for 20 minutes. Was it just coffee shop small talk or did you find out he works in the same neighborhood or something. I'm curious if total strangers can actually have a real conversation these days without it being forced.
